The Anatomy Of A Sting

“The end is important and not the means”

#blurb: Bhupen Patel has conducted many undercover operations over the course of his career. He’s exposed all sorts of rackets, from mental asylums admitting patients without proper medical examinations to discovering an illegal network of agents that arrange ‘temporary’ wives for Arab men looking to have a short fling. This book recounts in detail some of his most dramatic and hard-hitting stings.
Patel takes us through the entire process of a sting and reveals the amount of hard work it takes to not just uncover a story that requires further discreet investigation but also gather enough evidence to bring it to the notice of the public and authorities concerned. Each account will keep you on the edge of your seat and allow a glimpse into the life of an investigative journalist.

My Review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

Bhupen Patel is a renowned investigative journalist who has worked with Mumbai Mirror and NDTV and presently heads the crime team at Mid-day. Over the course of his career he has conducted several sting operations which changed the face of journalism in India. This book is a collection of ten such stories of Bhupen Patel’s bravery and fearlessness through which he has exposed several underworld scams and rackets. Starting from child trafficking to corrupt mental hospitals, it is a chilling memoir of undercover operations. He often used false names and hidden cameras attached to pen, watches, shirt buttons or even purse while carrying out the investigation. At times he took help oh his colleagues to assist him in the process.

The book is a brilliant read and can be finished in a single sitting. The stories keep you hooked till the end eager to know what is going to happen next. The writing style is intriguing which makes the book all the more enthralling. It provides a clear view into the world of an investigative journalist and displays the time and efforts put behind carrying out a successful sting operation. Though the job seems adventurous but in reality it is very hard and life threatening. If the frauds or racketeers come to know about your real identity then they won’t let you go alive. It is basically a game of confidence and intelligence where you have to stay aware of your surrounding and use the presence of mind. I highly recommend this book to all the lovers of mystery and thriller out there.
