Chronicles Of Kali : The Secret Book Of Asurs

“And of course a big part of the Asur’s secret book is to prevent these techniques from becoming well known”

#blurb: A fantasy/fiction novel that lures the reader into a parallel world of ferocious Subterranean Asurs plotting and planning to enslave the entire human race. Kali the protagonist, a regular teenager, soon learns of her supernatural abilities after which her life gets swept up in a whirlwind of cosmic adventure along with her companions; an ageless comrade, an unsuspectingmother and an enlightened master who help in fulfilling her destiny. The journey unfolds some thrilling mysteries across geographies; from the city of Angels – Los Angeles to our very own ancient Varanasi. An interesting read that cleverly clubs together history, adventure, and fantasy.

My review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

The story starts off with a girl named Kali living in Los Angeles with her foster mother Patricia who is a New York Times Best Selling Author. Patricia comes across Kali in Benaras when she visits Yogi Vyas to enquire about the Secret Book of Asurs about which she came to know from her household help Percy while going through a writer’s block. But as life threat dawns upon Kali, Yogi Vyas decides to send her to LA along with Patricia.

Kali is blessed with supernatural powers and abilities through which she can talk to birds, animals and trees and is believed to be the incarnation of Goddess Kali. She is born to save the mankind from the grip of Asurs who are destroying the world. In the process she comes across many people who are going to help her in the battle. But will she be successful? Can she defeat the Asurs?

The book is an interesting read with a unique plot and a gripping storyline filled with twists. It is a mythological fiction with a modern day touch where the stories of Goddess Kali are linked with our protagonist Kali who is a teenager. Sci-fi and adventure elements are mixed to make it all the more enthralling. My most loved character from the book is that of Kali which is so well written, she is portrayed as a smart, brave and strong girl not afraid of anything. Also the character Pat deserves appreciation for her constant support. The book also focuses on our ability to gain control over our thoughts and get rid of mental chatter to attain inner peace. I loved the concept of the boxed men and the ox which teaches us that when we don’t allow thoughts to reign us anymore we are able to see the world in a better way. What I did not like about the book is that there were numerous typos which distracted me and also in the middle the story falls flat but it does pick up the pace soon. The book needs time and you can’t finish it off in a single sitting as there are a lot of things going on. Moreover the language is not so easy. I also want to mention that the cover of the book is enchanting; it’s bold, fierce and beaming with power. Overall the story was fascinating and I would recommend this book to all the mythology lovers out there.
